Landlords have been given four years to insulate rental properties under proposed new residential tenancy laws requiring compulsory insulation in rental properties. Every rental property in New Zealand must be insulated by July 2019, and have smoke alarms fitted by July 2016, under proposed new residential tenancy laws.

Insulmax® is the first retrofit wall insulation method in New Zealand to be CodeMark certified. CodeMark is a voluntary product certification scheme that provides an easily understood and robust way to show a building product meets the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code. A product can be a building or construction method, building design or a building material.

The Insulation Association of New Zealand (IAONZ) has been established, with the support and involvement of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), by representatives of some of the major manufacturers, suppliers and installers to establish nationwide performance benchmarks for the supply and installation of residential insulation.
